Veneer Bales

An Alternative to firewood

As a result of our waste management research, a long awaited solution has been found in order to dispose of veneer waste which gets accumulated from plywood manufacturing more efficiently.

The conventional method used by plywood manufacturers in order to get rid of the veneer waste is by resorting to either chipping or burning. These activities use up high energy and is labor intensive while creating adverse impact on the environment.

As another pioneering effort by Lanka Plywood, a technique has been introduced to bale the residuals enabling efficient transport, there by opening up opportunities to supply the waste as a firewood alternative.

We currently supply maskeliya plantations (A subsidiary of Arpico Group)nearly 100000 kilos a month thus saving nearly 6000-7000 trees per annum. This remarkable achievement has made Lanka Plywood the only ‘Rainforest Alliance ’ accredited plywood company in sri lanka
